Heritage MapsInterested in what’s around you? Want to find out more about your local heritage? Check out HeritageMaps.ie – a rich resource that Compass Informatics has had the opportunity to work on through various phases over recent years. It is a key initiative of the Heritage Council, Ireland.

This  map viewer is  the A-Z of Ireland’s heritage :  from archaeology to the marine zone.

Explore pilgrim paths, burial grounds, bat landscapes, maritime museums, walled towns from your phone, tablet or desktop computer.

HeritageMaps.ie allows you to look at a wide range of built and natural heritage datasets in map form, many of which have never been accessible to the public before.

HeritageMaps.ie acts as a “one-stop-shop” discovery tool, providing access to heritage data along with contextual data from a broad range of sources. These datasets were created for government departments, agencies and local authorities.

HeritageMaps.ie has many other uses for education, recreation and research.

HeritageMaps.ie hosts the Dublin Archaeology viewer and we are currently developing new area-specific viewers for the Dublin Bay Area and the Burren.

HeritageMaps.ie is building up national coverage of heritage datasets from local authority sources as well as using existing national datasets, including live services.

The Heritage Council has worked over the past 18 months  with local authorities and Compass Informatics to bring this to you.

We need your help to develop Heritage Maps. Please visit heritagemaps.ie and leave feedback – via the link on the homepage – with your views and suggestions.

HeritageMaps.ie uses Esri GIS technology with customisation, and a programme of supporting work to collate data and engage organisations.

Heartfelt congratulations and thanks to the Heritage Council!
